How business days are counted
A business day is any day in your working week that isn't a public holiday. The calculator walks the range one day at a time, so the count stays right even when a holiday falls on a weekend, when the range crosses years, or when your week isn't Monday to Friday.
When a holiday lands on a weekend
US and UK rules move weekend holidays differently. Change the year to see which weekday actually gets the day off.
| Holiday | Falls on | US federal day off | UK (E&W) day off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Independence Day (4 Jul) | Sunday | Mon 5 Jul 2027 | not a holiday |
| Christmas Day | Saturday | Fri 24 Dec 2027 | Mon 27 Dec 2027 |
| Boxing Day | Sunday | not a holiday | Tue 28 Dec 2027 |
US (OPM): Saturday holidays are observed on the Friday before, Sunday holidays on the Monday after. UK: a weekend bank holiday gets a "substitute day" on the next weekday that isn't already a holiday, so a Saturday Christmas pushes Boxing Day to Tuesday.
